I took th theme a bit sideways, and turned it into a criticism on th usage of “Hail Mary” itself. Hail Mary as a concept has become a mechanism for punishment. The Mother has been lost in th process and now Hail Mary is just a penance. Mary, th mother, here is reduced to an outline. only a hint of her form remains, and that itself is distressed in style, th eclipse is nearly complete. th mother is gone, only a penance remains. alongside an arch of th Rosary beads that this punishment mechanism is enacted thru.
th Kithcen Witch manifested th “canvas”, she is better at that than ANYONE. if we need something she just yanks it out of th aether, and it appears. in this case we were looking for a vaguely religious looking artifact to paint on, to fit th theme of th work, and not only did she find one, on demand, at th thrift store, but this one also had this bead string attached already; which FUCKKNG PERFECTLY translated into befoming “prayer beads” like a rosary. it fits th Hail Mary theme so perfectly it’s goddam insane. a coincidence you might call it, but it’s too crazy to be mere happenstance. I had already figured out what this piece would be BEFORE this thing showed up with th beads. it makes my head spin. a Rosary is what is used to count out Hail Marys, do you get it? it’s WILD that she got this thing into my hands for this work. it doesn’t get any more perfect than this.
